Preparing For Your Newborn Session

Congratulations on your new bundle of joy! Your body has just done the most amazing thing possible, good job mama! To prepare you for your session and for it to run smoothly, here are a few tips and tricks for you on the day of your session. (If you are visiting my studio, skip to the bottom, the following if for in-home sessions)

I will need adequate spacing for my kit and lighting set up, if there is a living room, nursery or bedroom space available, I ask that all tables or chairs can be moved and that there is access to an outlet for my lighting. For the babe, if you could have your little one undressed (with a diaper on, it will be removed for beanbag poses) wrapped in a blanket. This will ensure a smooth transition to the beanbag. However, if your little one is not having the best of times on the beanbag, I will transition to wrapped poses and then try a second time for beanbag poses. All poses that babe will be in are safe! Your little one will not be put in any poses that they do not like, although they look uncomfortable, most babies love them!

Please note, in my professional experience, some babies HATE being on the beanbag naked! It is normal! I will do my best to get a diverse gallery. Parent and family shots will usually be shot on the couch, or up against a blank wall. For parents, I suggest wearing neutral or light colors unless you have a theme in mind. If mama happens to be a breastfeeding mother, please let me know as if you are comfortable, I will include breastfeeding shots at no extra cost.

In-home sessions usually take anywhere from 2-3 hours depending on your little one! I allow one reshoot if I believe I did not get adequate images for your gallery. Canvas wall art as well as photo prints and photo books are available to purchase after your session and will be ordered and shipped after editing your session.

Feel free to take behind the scenes photos and videos! I will take my own for marketing purposes and you will get copies as well. As a general timeline, newborn galleries can take up to 3 weeks to edit as they are more intricate than portraits such as maternity and family.

In-home session fees are included in your package, however tips are more than welcome! Most importantly, lay back and relax! As a professional and mama myself, your little one is in amazing hands. I look forward to my session with you!
